Vital Information

Breathitt county was formed in 1839. It is located in the Eastern region of the state. In 2000 census, the county population was 16,100. The land area of 495 square miles, has an average of 32.5 people per square mile. The county seat is Jackson. Population (year 2000): 2,490, Est. population in July 2002: 2,426 Males: 1,100 Females: 1,390. Land Area 2.7 miles
