Raymond Junior Conn / 1948 – 2009

MOREHEAD – Raymond Junior Conn, age 61, of Elliottville, KY, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. 

Born May 13, 1948, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Bill and Molly Fraley Conn.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Conn and Harlan Conn, and two sisters, Hattie M. Conn and Lottie Tolliver. 

 Raymond is survived by one son, Danny R. Conn of Peebles, Ohio; two daughters, Rhonda Hitch of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and Sara Rene Smith of Olive Hill, Kentucky and one grandson, Darrell Dewayne Hitch. 

Also surviving are two sisters, Julia Creech of Hebron, Connecticut, and Opal March of Dayton, Ohio, and cousin and special friend, Delford Fraley of Elliottville, Kentucky. 

Raymond was a former truck driver. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bill Catron officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fraley Cemetery on Brown Ridge. 

Pallbearers will be Delford Fraley, Willie Conn, Johnny Conn, Steven March, Darrell Hitch, and Dewayne Hitch. 

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Willodean Collins Perry / 1925 – 2009

MOREHEAD – Marion Willodean Collins Perry, age 84, of Pretty Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009, at her home. 

She was born July 23, 1925, in Morgan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Morton and Bessie Elam Collins.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Perry, on October 29, 1996; one son, Frederick Lee Perry; one sister, Elizabeth Endgall; and one brother, Kelly Collins. 

Mrs. Perry is survived by one daughter, Valerie Skaggs and husband Donnie of Morehead, Kentucky; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. 

Also surviving are three sisters, Blanche Black of West Liberty, Kentucky, Amy Jo Morrison of Ashland, Kentucky, and Judy Davis of Midway, Georgia, and one brother, Stanley Collins of West Liberty, Kentucky. 

Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and of the protestant faith. 

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, December 21. 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Herbert D. Lewis officiating.  Burial was in New Alfrey Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be James Lee Hughes, Jack Hughes, Neal Morton, Donald Skaggs, Steve Perry, and Dennis Perry. 

Visitation was Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Jackie D. Bartley / 1947 – 2009

MOUNT STERLING – Jackie D. Bartley, age 62, of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, formerly of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Lake Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Florida. 

He was born May 2, 1947, in Pikeville, Kentucky, and is the son of Nona Bartley of   Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, and the late Everett Bartley.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Ratliff, and a nephew, Chad Ratliff. 

In addition to his mother, Jackie is survived by his wife, Raquel Bartley; two nephews, Kenny and Mike Ratliff; and one sister-in-law, Lucy Clevinger Ratliff. 

Mr. Bartley retired after 21 years as guidance counselor at Mt. Sterling Elementary School and moved to Florida 12 years ago.  He was a member of the Lake Panasoffkee First Baptist Church.  Jackie was an avid deer hunter, loved music, playing the guitar, and Harley Motorcycles.   

Visitation was held Sunday, December 20, 2009; a funeral service was conducted 1 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Spruce First Church of God in Jeffersonville with Wendell Clevinger officiating .  Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery in Mount Sterling.

James Scott Mullen / 1959 – 2009 

WINCHESTER – James Scott Mullen, 50, of Winchester, KY, husband of Susan Birch Mullen, passed away at 8:29 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2009, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY.

A native of Rowan County, KY, he was born April 21, 1959, the son of Bill Mullen of Morehead, KY, and Janice Law Manley of Winchester, KY.   Mr Mullen was employed by L-3 Communications and was the owner of Homeplace Restoration and Homeplace Nursery and co-owner of the Winchester Flea Market.  He attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include a son, Robert Collins of TX; 2 daughters, Stacey Mullen of TX and Krystal (Josh) Pasley of Winchester, KY; 1 granddaughter, Kaitlynn Montgomery of TX; 2 brothers, Dave (Sue) Mullen of Winchester, KY and Tommy Mullen of Irvine, KY; 2 sisters, Debi “Star” Johnson of Winchester, KY and Donna (James) Wallace of Morehead, KY; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins including Hannah and Jeremiah Thompson, Amy and Cole Caldwell, David Mullen Jr., Billy and Amanda Mullen, Michael and Candice Mader and Parker Mullen.

Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Mullen, and stepfather, Abe Manley.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jess Brewer and Bro. Wayne Hall officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Mullen, Josh Pasley, Timmy Whittle, Gary Kerns, Chuck Adams, Billy Mullen, Jeremiah Thompson and Mark Law.  

Honorary pallbearers will be E. R. Johnson and Tom Brinegar.

Dana G. Greenfield / 1935 – 2009

MOREHEAD – Dana G. Greenfield, 74, of Burchett Boulevard, Morehead, KY, community leader, church volunteer, adjunct instructor at Morehead State University, and retired engineer, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 20, 2009, at his home. 

Dana was born November 19, 1935, in South Bend, IN, son of the late David Gerard and Edna Rose Engelhardt Greenfield.  He lived in South Bend and Terre Haute, IN, until his family moved during his teenage years to Charleston, WV in 1951.  There he graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1954.  

In January 1960, Dana graduated from Marshall University with a B.S. Degree in Engineering Science.  Shortly thereafter, he was hired by the Corps of Engineers in February 1960, and began a career spanning 35 years of federal service in the Louisville District, the Ohio Division office, and the Huntington District office.  As a licensed professional engineer and licensed land surveyor, Dana was passionate about his work with the Corps.  He worked on locks and dams in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia; oversaw military construction at Bluegrass Station (Avon Industrial Park); and managed military construction in Germany for NATO.  He was instrumental in building three lakes in northern Indiana and in 1970 moved to Morehead to become the resident engineer for Cave Run Lake.  He retired from the Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, in 1995.  

For over 30 years, Dana was an adjunct instructor in the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology at Morehead State University.  A sailing enthusiast, he also taught sailing classes at the university for eight years. 

Always committed to community organizations, Dana became more active in civic and church organizations following retirement.  A long-time member of the United Methodist Church who had served in various roles through the years, he became particularly involved in the construction of the new church building, served on the Board of Trustees, and enjoyed the Builders Sunday School Class and Merry Mixers functions.  

Dana served in leadership roles in many civic organizations including Kiwanis, Habitat for Humanity and Wilderness Road Girl Scout Council, as well as many local boards such as the Advisory Board for Long-Range Planning for a Retirement Community.  His life was characterized by his unending eagerness to learn, to teach, to volunteer, and to help. 

Dana is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Pat) Shumate Greenfield, whom he wed June 4, 1960; one son, Richard Preston Greenfield of Lumberton, North Carolina; one daughter, Dee Ann Greenfield Hunter and husband Walter James Hunter of Chesterfield, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Brandon Hunter and Megan Hunter, both of Chesterfield, Virginia. 

Other survivors include two sisters, Joan Carol Greenfield Armbruster of Davis, West Virginia, and Marcia Louise (Marlou) Greenfield Fulton of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. 

Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Nettleton officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. 

Pallbearers:  George Alfrey, Larry Beeman, Wade Cain, Dave Dummer, Gene Duncan, Tom Fossett, Johnny Fryman, Nelson Grote, Bob Grueninger, Rodger Hammons, Phil Martin, Gary Van Meter. 

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
