The 2011 Breathitt Heritage Fair Parade is in the books. The turnout was good considering the chilly weather.

The 7th Annual Breathitt Heritage Fair is under way and as with all things, change is inevitable. The Fair Committee has some new members as some Fair founders step aside to concentrate on other ventures. The Fair which started in 2005 had a lot of challenges in front of it. The Fair, which concentrates on the rich Heritage of Breathitt County prides itself in free concerts for the general public. In 2005, the only year the main concert had an entrance fee, The KY Headhunters packed out Lees College gym to provide the Fair with a legitimate act. In 2006 thousands braved a cold night as Ty Herndon put on a crowd pleasing show. In 2007, Exile & Kiss Army drew well over a thousand people in rather warm temperatures. 2008 brought in on of Country musics bigger stars in his hey day as Sammy Kershaw packed out Douthitt Park. 2009 was much the same as Aaron Tippin with his fan friendly show, kept the thousands jumping. 2010 saw the return of the KY Head Hunters and their upbeat “rock-a-billy” music. A large crowd was on hand and once again filled Douthitt Park. This year, the cold weather returned and the timing could not have been worse. Five minutes before American Idol star Bucky Covington was set to take the stage, a mere 300-400 people had braved the cold. The crowd would get a little bit bigger during the show, but it was not the crowds the Heritage Fair had grown used to. The economy & cold weather had a lot to do with it.

Some other changes made this year was the arrival of a carnival. This started on Thursday night and although cold weather appeared to slow the crowd, kids still found time to enjoy the rides and games. All in all the Fair still is a crowd pleaser and folks would not let mother nature keep them from having fun. As with any good Fair, there is trial and error, and the Breathitt Heritage Fair is no different. Changes will be made to improve things for next year. The Fair is in good hands and those who left over the years, have helped lay the groundwork for great Fairs for years to come.

Rules as follows (Note: rules may be changed at any time by Tournament directors):

1) Entry Fee and Roster must be turned in before first game, no exceptions.

2) 3 men & 3 women on floor at all times.

3) Must be 16 years of age.

4) Must sign waiver before playing.

5) Players may only play on one team.

6) Tournament will be double elimination.

7) Absolutely no arguing with referees.

Regular Parks League rules apply.

Aaron Tippin kept fans happy during 2009 Heritage Fair

After a slow start to the day with high winds wreaking havoc, things finally settled down at the 2009 Breathitt Heritage Fair. Fans were treated to several great acts including the debut of Kayla Smith’s new CD as well as up and coming star JD Shelburne. Country star Aaron Tippin took the stage and put on a terrific show for the thousands of fans that covered Douthitt Park fields. The hilight to the show was Tippin breaking out his one of a kind truck horn, which some said they could hear in the Wolverine community. Rap group Down Bottom put on a great show to finish the night.  All in all the Fair was one for the books and according to Entertainment Director, Ron Hamblin, it will be better next year.

Breathitt Heritage Fair Parade expected to be biggest in years

The 2009 Breathitt Heritage is shaping up to be one of the best fairs in recent memory and the Parade should be one to talk about. The Grand Marshall for this years parade will be Aaron Tippin. Also expected to be in the parade are Country star J.D. Shelburn, newly signed recording artist Kayla Smith, Florida Rappers Down Bottom with 5 Star, Jackson Mayor, Mike Miller, Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo along with several classic cars, tractors, and so much more.

Everyone is encouraged to get out early and line HWy 15 to watch this years parade. The parade will take place Saturday October 3rd at 11:00am. It will begin at LBJ School and travel HWY 15 to McDonalds. Come out and enjoy all the fun at the 2009 Breathitt Heritage Fair.

Country star Aaron Tippin heads a star studded group performing at the Heritage Fair

The 2009 Breathitt Heritage Fair is almost here and the Breathitt Heritage Fair Committee is excited about the big stars at this years event. Aaron Tippin will headline a huge event. The One life Tour kicks off Friday with 33 Miles, John Waller & Pocket full of Rocks. Saturday will feature the release of newly signed Nashville performer Kayla Smith along with J.D. Shelburne. Aaron Tippin will perform and then the rapping rock group Down Bottom with 5 Star will take the stage. Sunday features the Singing Cooks, along with other big name groups. All in all, there will be no shortage of entertainment at the 2009 Breathitt Heritage Fair.
