The origin of Breathitt Heritage Fair
Back to Main Page
The Breathitt Heritage Fair idea, was put into action on October 21st, 2004 after several attempts to revive the Old Breathitt County Fair, failed, for various reasons. Ron Hamblin began posting on the local message board, Breathitt Opinion Board, as it was called back then, to get a general idea of what people thought about a new fair that celebrated Breathitt County's rich history. The idea was a huge success. Ron was soon joined by several important people in forming a committee to get things underway. People were allowed to vote online to help name the new Fair and thus, the name "Breathitt Heritage Fair" was born. The first official meeting by the new committee took place in January of 2005. From there it has been a mighty group effort and the Fair has become one of the best in the region if not the entire state. Members have come and gone over the years, but new blood has made the Fair what it is today and kept the Fair from becoming stagnant and boring. One of the Fair boards initial goals was that there will be input and support from anyone who wants to help. One person cannot decide the fate of Breathitt County and it's rich history. This has to be an effort by everyone and has to be inclusive for all citizens. We are excited to bring back Breathitt's rich Heritage. We welcome all your ideas and hope that you will share them with us. This Fair is by the people and for the great people of Breathitt County. Support us as we support Breathitt County's Heritage!
