Hi again, 10-6-04
First of all, I would like to thank everybody that has emailed me in the past week or so. It is good to hear from people back there in good ole Bloody Breathitt. Hopefully, I will be able to visit a "spell" soon.
This may not be the scariest sight this Halloween season, but it sure is the prettiest I have seen yet. I guess being the father of this beautiful little girl kinda clouds my judgement. Let me introuduce you to my daughter - Lottie Sierra. She turned 3 this past June and she is all geared up for Halloween in her little fairy costume. Everybody just remember to be safe and watch out for kids on the street during Halloween. You can never be too safe when it comes to our kids.
Here in Georgia, the weather is starting to cool off a little bit of the nights and the days are only in the 80s. It is a nice break from the hot humid summer days. Finally, the hurricanes have lightened up a little bit to make for some nice weather for us.
Everybody around Ft Stewart is gearing up for our deployment back to Iraq coming up in a couple of months. Some of us are the same ole guys that went over for the war the first time around, but they are alot of new guys to 3rd I.D. and they are excited about going. That will soon change. Sure I spent 6 months over there for the main campaign of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Do I look forward to going back again? Well, you might as well ask me do I like being away from my wife and kids for 12 months. No. Of course not, nobody likes to be away from their family for that long. I will go and I will not bitch about it for this is what I signed up for and I will do my best to help the cause.
Until next time, Catch ya later

9-25-04 Hi,
It has been 5 years now since I have moved away from Breathitt County and boy have I been busy since then. I joined the Ky National Guard in '99 and upon completion of basic training and AIT at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri I got married. After getting married to my awesome wife Sophors, I moved to northern Ky around the Newport area and transferred to 2nd of 138 Field Artillery unit (KYNG) in Walton, Ky. While there my first child was born -- a sweet little girl named Lottie Sierra Bowling (named her after my mamaw). I decided to go active duty Army in '02 -- joined an egineering unit in Ft Stewart, Georgia and been here since then. Of course, it has been 2 years of traveling around -- National Training Center rotation to California in '02, main campaign of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait and Iraq from Jan to Jul of '03, Operation Foil Eagle to Korea in '04, Marne Focus rotation in '04, JRTC rotation to Ft Polk, Louisiana in '04, and many many FTX's since.  It's not over for me yet looks like we will be going back to the desert for a 12 month rotation next year and we are expecting our second child in Feb. of next year as well. Man, it is hard to catch your breath with all the activity. Plus, I just re-enlisted for 4 more years of it in July of this year.
I haven't got to go back home or talk to all the good people that I know from Breathitt as much as I would have liked to. However, if you would like to get in touch with me or drop a few lines just to say hey how the heck have you been that would be great. You can email me at

Look forward to hear from you, Spc. Robert Bowling, Jr. US Army
