| UCM to hold Open House/Informational Session in Jackson 4-20-04 The University Center of the Mountains (UCM) will be conducting an informational session/open house on Thursday, April 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the Breathitt County Life Skills Center in Jackson. Seven bachelor and three master degree programs are presently available through the UCM partnership in the Kentucky River region. The originating partners of the UCM are Eastern Kentucky University, Hazard Community and Technical College, Kentucky Community and Technical College System and Morehead State University. Partner representatives will be available to provide a general overview of programs and provide information about the admission, registration and financial aid process. At the Job Fair 4-16-04 Mike McLane, Science and Operations officer with the National Weather Service in Jackson talks Rebecca Thorpe at the Lees College Campus of Hazard Community and Technical College during the annual Job Fair which attracted a crowd of 120 120 attracted to HCTC’s Job Fair at Lees 4-16-04 The Ready to Work sponsored Job Fair at the Lees College Campus of Hazard Community and Technical College attracted about 120 people this year. Visitors had the chance to talk with potential employers about their career opportunities. A big attraction to students on Wednesday, April 14 was the FBI out of Louisville. “Cool, I want to work for the FBI,” was heard more than once among students attending. This was the first year for the FBI to participate, as was the first time for another attraction to those attending –Wal Mart of Jackson. “We were proud we were able to attract such vendors,” noted Kim Barnes, Ready to Work coordinator, who organized the event. “We especially appreciate Principal Tim Spencer, Superintendent Dr. Taylor Collins and Greg Stacy for allowing the Jackson City School juniors and seniors to visit our Job Fair. Also, several students from Wolfe County High School attended,” noted Mrs. Barnes. Other vendors at the Job Fair included: American Woodmark, Federal Bureau of Prisons from Manchester, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Eastern Kentucky Veteran’s Hospital, Hazard ARH, Whitaker Bank, Kentucky National Guard, National Weather Service, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, KY Division of Forestry, and Lee Adjustment Center. Also participating were Morehead State University-Jackson, Kentucky Mountain Bible College, KHEAA, and HCTC programs: Business, Radiography, PTA, Human Services, Nursing, admissions, which included information on the new offerings of the University Center of the Mountains. Student clubs SIFE and CANSO were represented too. A free lunch sponsored by CANSO and the college’s food services were an added attraction to the day’s event. |
