| Fish Oil - For a Healthy Heart 6-9-05
Fish oil and the amazing heart-healthy benefits of its Omega-3 fatty acids have been making the headlines recently. Even the White House has weighed in, urging governmental agencies to encourage Americans to increase their consumption of foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Ditto for the American Heart Association... they recommend it too, along with eating fish often, especially for people with heart conditions. Even medical doctors agree that there is scientific evidence that fish oil is beneficial. Why Do You Need Fish Oil? Nutritionists across the board all agree the national diet is exceptionally low in Omega-3 fatty acids. The most potent sources are found primarily in tuna, cod, salmon, herring, organ meats, and wild game- foods we simply don't get enough of. Furthermore, "essential" fatty acids are so called because while the body needs them, they cannot be produced automatically, and so essential fatty acids must be consumed through food or supplements. What Are The Benefits For You? Health conscious consumers (including our mothers) have long known that eating fish is good for you. That latest research findings tell us that Omega-3 fatty acids can help to: Improve brain function...DHA (docosahexenoic acid), one of the primary fatty acids in fish oil, is found in high concentrations in the brain. Low brain levels have associated with age-related memory loss, while an increase of DHA in the diet has been linked to improved memory and enhanced cognitive function. So important is DHA to brain development that in other parts of the world and most recently in the United States, the essential fatty acid is now added to many baby formulas. Improve mood Reduce inflammation But perhaps nowhere have the evidence been more compelling for including Omega-3 fish oils in the diet than in the area of heart health and in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Now, leading health organizations and journals are advocating the essential fatty acids. Supporting heart health...The American Heart Association concludes that Omega-3 fatty acids can benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of- or who have- cardiovascular disease. In fact, in the Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, the lead author noted that Omega-3 fatty acids are not just good fats; they affect heart health in positive ways. After reviewing the history and research concerning Omega-3 fatty acids, the British Medical Journal has found the link to be considerable and strongly recommend fish oil intake. Even the FDA has concluded: "Consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease." Fish Oil Or Flax Oil? Dr. William Harris, an internationally recognized expert in Omega-3 fatty acids and cardiovascular health, answers: "Most Americans would do well to increase their intake of both plant-and marine-derived Omega-3 fatty acids..." For individuals with diagnosed coronary heart disease, the American Heart Association recommends 1 g of EPA/DHA daily. They acknowledge however, that many people with this condition may not be able to get enough Omega-3 by diet alone, and should therefore consider taking an EPA/DHA supplement, in consultation with their doctor. Omega-3 Fatty Acids May Benefit Aggressive Behavior Researchers suggest that young adults with a high intake of Omega-3 fatty acids may be less prone to hostility. The study is part of evidence suggesting polyunsaturated essential fatty acids may play a role in mental health. A report in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition examined the association of dietary Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, as well as fish, with the level of hostility displays in a sample group consisting of over 3,000 young adults. Both intake of fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) intake were separately associated with lower odds of high hostility. Don't Let This One Get Away! The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and the bugs start biting! Before the welts started swelling, well here is some advice on bug bite prevention and treatment. PREVENTION BEGINS INTERNALLY Good insect bite prevention begins from the inside out. Make sure to take your B-vitamins consistently.... Most insects are repelled by the presence of vitamin B-1 in human sweat. Effective vitamin therapy varies according to age and general health, but a multiple vitamin B 100 mg suppement twice a day should be adequate as follows (adjust the dose down by age and weight for children)... For most adults and teenagers: a B-100 multivitamin that contains 100mg of B-6 and other B vitamins For children ages seven to 12: a B-25 multivitamin that contains 25 mg of B-6 and other B vitamins. Talk to you doctor about doses for children under the age of six. To make sure you are taking enough vitamin B to repel insects, check your urine...You'll know you are taking enough to keep bugs away if your urine turns yellow. While it is unusual to overdose on B-vitamins, check with your medical provider if you have any significant chronic diseases or are taking other medications. ULTRASOUND INSECT REPELLING If you like gadgets, here is an interesting one. The FC-50 electronic flea and tick repeller, manufactured by Innotek, repels insects within a few meters via ultrasound. Although it is designed to be clipped to a dog's collar, soldiers in Iraq have successfully used the FC-50 to repel sand flies. In addition, Innotek has received anecdotal reports that the FC-50 has been effective in repelling ticks as well -- a good thing to keep in mind if you live in areas where deer ticks create concerns about Lyme disease. The FC-50 is the size of a cigarette lighter, can be clipped to clothing and runs on a watch battery. (http://www.innotek.net or 800-826-5527. Cost: $25.) ONCE BITTEN If you do get a bite, I suggest: After Bite, available in most health-food stores. It is extremely effective in soothing the intense itching caused by mosquito bites. Itch control is vitally important, because scratching open wounds can create potentially problematic secondary infections. Just be sure to store After Bite in a safe place away from kids, because its main ingredient is lye (sodium hydroxide). There is no danger if After Bite is applied properly. If applying to children, watch them for five minutes or so to be sure they don't touch their eyes or ingest it. By that time the solution should be absorbed. Alternatively, I recommend a combination one-two punch with the following herbs: Goldenseal, an antimicrobial herb, helps control secondary infection and purifies tissue. Apply topically to the bite. Make a paste of the root powder and cover with a hot, moist compress. * Comfrey, another herb, helps to remove the puffy, stiff swelling of a bite. Apply topically using the same technique as with goldenseal. For maximum effectiveness, apply goldenseal first, then comfrey. If inconvenient, the two may be combined into a single paste. Aloe vera has long been a staple in bug-bite treatment. use only fresh aloe vera directly from the plant, since much of aloe vera's power is lost one hour after it is extracted from the leaf. You can buy aloe vera plants at your local nursery. Break off a leaf and squeeze out the gel onto the bite. * For relieving the itch and pain of multiple bites over a broad area of the body, use witch hazel. Or, take a bar of Aveeno (oatmeal) soap, put it in your hand with a little water and make a stiff foam, then "paint" this over the bite area. It will dry to a dust. Aveeno draws out the poisons and toxins from the skin. Or, take a warm bath in two cups of Aveeno oatmeal bath powder and two cups of Epsom salts. (Note: Aveeno is great for poison ivy as well.) Emergency care required: If you have had hypersensitive reactions to insect bites in the past and/or if you experience a systemic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, an itchy or scratchy throat, mucous buildup in the back of the nose, or if you feel dizzy or confused, you should get immediate care from a physician or go to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. I've written it before and I will continue to write it because it's a long uphill battle to undo what the mainstream media has done. Weight training is the key to taking off fat and keeping it off, NOT aerobics!! Unfortunately, the best you can hope for from diet and aerobics alone is to become a "skinny fat person." you'll go from a big pear to a small pear, but still a pear nontheless. If you don't weight train, at least half the weight you lose will be muscle, which will in turn slow down your metabolism, preventing you from losing more fat and making it difficult to keep off what you have lost. Obviously, weight training is the key to developing strength and muscle. What few people realize is that weight training also increases fat loss, and does so more effectively than aerboics and diet alone. Weight training burns calories during a workout, just like aerobics. Weight training also burns more calories after your workout than aerobics does, due to its higher intensity level. Weight training can elevate your metabolism for up to 39 hours after a workout. This means you are burning even more fat, WHILE DOING NOTHING! You can't do that with the typical low intensity aerobics. By the way, you'd have to run a marathon to burn off about a pound, some of which will be muscle. Weight training increases your lean body mass - aerobic training does not. Having more muscle will reset your resting metabolism at a higher level, making it easier for you to lose more fat and also making it easier to keep the fat off permanently. You've lost a few pounds, now you are feeling better and looking better. What if you feel that it's not enough? What next? You need to begin working both smarter and harder. This is extremely important if you wish to continue to see more progress. I know, it sounds simple and it is, but it's not easy. Spending 2 hours a day, 6 days a week lifting weights isn't gonna cut it. Sure, you may be working hard but it's the wrong kind of work and you won't make progress, you'll overtrain. If you want to ascend beyond the lowly beginner level you simply have to push yourself harder. And that means getting the heck out of your comfort zone. GET OUT OF IT! The comfort zone isn't just getting home from work, plopping on the couch, grabbing the remote and downing a few beers every night. You can get into a comfort zone even while engaged in a workout and nutrition plan. Maybe you are doing only 6 reps on that set of squats when you know deep down that if you just worked hard you could get 9 or 10. Now, you're not increasing the weights on your exercises. There it is. You're stuck in the comfort zone. Pretty soon, you won't even get off the couch to workout at all. Let's be very clear. There is no maintaining. You are either moving forward or moving backward. Which direction you choose to go is up to you. The achiever is the person who is aware that to "stand still inside the comfort zone" will get you absolutely nowhere, so he or she is ALWAYS MOVING FORWARD. In this artical I will give you some information on a Doctor who give chelation a try and it unblocked his arteries I will call him Dr B., "A year after I was diagnosed with severe heart disease, I went back for a test. What's Wrong With Fabric Softeners? People are discovering that fabric softeners are some of the most toxic products made for daily household use. They contain chemicals (like chloroform, benzyl acetate and pentane) that are known to cause cancer and/or damage to lungs, brain, and nerves. These chemicals are even more dangerous when heated in clothes dryers. The toxic fumes then go into neighborhood air and everyone for blocks around is forced to breathe them in. Fabric softener chemicals are made to stay in clothes fibers and slowly release for a very long time. That slow release of chemicals into the air affects the health of those wearing the clothes and of people around them. Some symptoms caused by fabric softener fumes are: tiredness that is not cured by resting, difficulty breathing, nervousness for no known reason, difficulty concentrating and remembering, dizziness, headaches, sick stomach, feeling faint, rashes and/or difficulty controlling body movements. Babies, children, older people, and people who are already sick are especially hurt by these chemicals. Damage can be permanent, causing lifelong illness. Babies often react with rashes, frequent crying and/or diarrhea. Disinfectants can have the same effects. Experts suggest a possible connection between Sudden Infant Death ("crib death") and the use of these products for washing baby clothes and crib sheets and blankets. Most fabric softeners have fragrance added to them, which makes them even more toxic. What's Wrong With Scented Detergent? (Almost all detergents contain fragrance - even many that are labeled "no perfume" or "unscented"!) 95% of the chemicals used in fragrances are made from petroleum products. Many are known to cause cancer, birth defects, and damage to lungs, brain, and nerves. Some chemicals commonly used in fragrances, such as toluene, are listed as hazardous waste worldwide. Fragrances are not regulated by any government or health agency. There is no law that requires fragrance ingredients to be put on product labels. For example, paradichlorobenzene is a cancer-causing chemical used in many "air fresheners", as well as in some pesticides. U.S. law requires that it be listed as an active ingredient in pesticides, but it does not have to be listed at all on "air freshener" labels. The more often you breathe in these chemicals (24 hours a day if they are in clothes and bedding), the more likely you are to permanently damage your body. They also add to the damage done by chemicals present at work and in public places. You may feel tired, breathless or lightheaded, sick to your stomach, or get a headache, and not realize these are early signs of chemical poisoning. If you keep using toxic products, you may become so sick you can no longer work or even leave your home. Some people have epileptic seizures when they are anywhere near someone wearing perfume or scented products, because their nervous systems have been so damaged by these and other chemicals. Regular users of scented products often say they "can hardly smell it." These products deaden your natural ability to smell, making you want to use more and stronger fragrances. Meanwhile, what you think is a light fragrance is suffocating and nauseating people around you. What Can Be Used Instead? In supermarkets, soap or detergent labeled "no fragrance" is usually the safest choice. Products labeled "no perfume" or "unscented" often do actually contain fragrance. However, a few, like Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby Castile liquid soap and Granny's Unscented Detergent, are truly unscented. If your supermarket does not have any detergent or soap without fragrance, ask them to get some, or try a health food store. Some people use only plain baking soda. To soften fabrics and reduce static cling, add a cup or more of plain baking soda to each wash. To kill germs, a hot water wash and the high heat of the clothes dryer are safer than disinfectant, because they leave no dangerous chemicals in clothes and bedding. The chlorocarbons have long been famous for causing organ, genetic, and reproductive damage. It should be no surprise, therefore, that the testing of sucralose, even at less than the level demanded by FDA rules, reveals that it has been shown to cause up to 40%shrinkage of the thymus: A gland that is the very foundation of our immune system. It also causes swelling of the liver and kidneys, and CALCIFICATION of the kidney. Lying and deceit on the artificial sweetener issue has been the FDA's Modus Operandi ever since Donald Rummsfeld broke everything decent in the US government to put Aspartame on the market as a "contract on humanity". It has no commercial purpose other than a contract on humanity. Either they have done but little testing of sucralose, or they are so afraid of what the public would think of sucralose, and the government if the public but knew what was going on, that they will not tell us! BECAUSE: we have been told nothing about the extensive studies which would have to have been done if very reasonable, and scientifically sound FDA rules had been followed. Such study results as have been made known, catches the company in great big whopper lies! When questioned about the Thymus shrinkage which would disqualify sucralose forever, by the FDA's own rules, the company merely said. "Well the rats wouldn't eat the food with sucralose in it, so the thymus lost weight from starvation." The FDA allowed that explanation even though it was an admission that the rats hadn't ingested the required amount of sucralose, but had demonstrated immense damage anyway! In fact, if research animals won't voluntarily eat the required dose of experimental substance it can be given by gastric gavage, which is a common and well-known research method. Moreover, the rats so fed were only 7-20% underweight Vs the average for the control group. Rats who are severely starved to create a 30% weight loss, only shrink their thymus by an average of 7%. The net conclusion from all this is, that both the thymus shrinkage and the growth retardation caused by sucralose were enough to in each case disqualify sucralose from the marketplace. All of these KNOWN findings only pointed out that the testing was so flawed that it could never be used as a basis for approval on one hand, and that the effects which were detected anyway were so severe that sucralose should never be allowed into the human body. It should be classified right along with DDT, and dioxin as illegal to even release into the environment much less put into your body! The company blandly and heinously denied that sucralose is a chlorocarbon. They stated that it was merely a salt, like sodium chloride! That whopper wouldn't even get past a sophomore chemistry student. Facts, and concern for human welfare are obviously irrelevant in our Bush dominated government, and the Rummsfeld dominated media. What their incredulously lying statements about what sucralose is, did bring to mind though, is that it flies in the face of what its known breakdown product , 1, 6, dichloro, fructose, is: Another highly toxic chlorocarbon. They admittedly did not do toxicity studies on it, as FDA rules require, or perhaps the findings were so dangerous that they felt it better to confess to the "minor omission", of not even complying with the law and doing the required studies! They further tried to side step the toxicity issue by saying "Sucralose is not even absorbed from the digestive tract anyway, because it is after all, a chlorocarbon.": Another bold faced lie. Chlorocarbons are significantly absorbed from the digestive tract and sucralose is no exception! It is significantly absorbed from the GI tract. Of course, at that point their lies had compounded and contradicted themselves. What you need to know about sucralose is that it is of a class of compounds which places it amongst some of the most dangerous chemicals on earth. The known studies, and science verify this fact. Lies and dissimulations, which have been totally, and inexcusably left unchecked by the FDA, point to gross governmental/corporate corruption, and massive cover up and peril. They say "Oh, It's just made from sugar, what could be more natural and harmless." When The Mind Says 'Fear' And The Heart Says 'Safe' 12-6-04 How many of us have desired something so bad that we eventually received that very thing we were truly wanting? This is an example of a heart wanting something and you took actions toward receiving "it". Now, there are other times when we want something, kind of desire it, and then think about it for a while because we aren't sure if we really want it or not. Then we come across something that we should be acting upon, because we desire it, but turn away from it because it scares us to have it. We make excuses for the last point, and funny enough, while the mind says NO, the heart says YES. This running from when we should go to is the problem most of us have in life. What happens next is we ignore or fight off what we know is great for us. Then, we continue our daily existence and begin to regret, or blame someone else, or just feel out of sorts not understanding why. The main cause of this is so simple yet very difficult to over-ride if we don't know how. When our mind says "fear" and the heart says "safe" we tend to go with our mind chatter because we have been conditioned to do so. Well, what will my family think, or I don't want to relocate, or I know I can take this other job which I've always dreamt of but what if I fail at it, who's going to pay my bills? Too many of us listen to what others think about us or we feel inadequate when the opportunity arises. Then, we continue to do the same thing, over and over again, believing that life has to be the way it is. This is only a perception held unto by conditioning, set off by some past disappointment(s) maybe big ones, which in turn lead to a questionable self-love and worth? Now, think about this statement: Looking back on your life, didn't you receive everything your heart truly desired and you set your mind toward establishing it (mind and heart)? Everything in your life up until this point you programmed. Reflect upon every situation up until this point. Now, why worry, feel anxious, or doubt yourself about what will happen tomorrow when today you can act upon with faith knowing all will work out for you at the end? Every step you take, while leading with your heart, your mind will follow through with important acts to get you to where you want to be. The following are a few more points to remember and to remind yourself that by following your heart first (safe) the adjustments made to the mind will link you to your next fulfillment. Finally, your mind can say good-bye to fear when it visits because it trusts the heart! Five quick tips toward self-empowerment: 1. You own your power. Think about those times when you thought you were too afraid to do something and accomplished "it" successfully. How did you feel after accomplishing that very thing you were frightened of? Know that you can do the same again and that it will work out for you because you wanted this event/situation to finally come to you. 2. If you are the kind of person who likes to live in the past and cannot move forward because of some "thing" that really upset you, think about the times you were really happy because of something great that happened. Don't you believe something great can happen again? You have nothing to loose, except more fulfillment if you keep putting off "x". 3. When you feel fear visualize yourself in the situation you want but fear. Act the role in your head. How do you feel? Work on this visualization technique every day for at least 5 minutes until you feel confident to again make the move toward what your heart says "yes" to. Think about changing your "fear" habit with this new habit of "visualization". Soon, you will find the new habit replaces the old! 4. Think back again to all that you desired and thought about which successfully worked out for you. Think about what "like attracts like" means. Do you notice how when you desire something and think about it in a positive light you see "it" everywhere? And, eventually you receive it. I can assure you that people will come in to help you achieve your desires. You only need to make that first step. Visualization is the perfect first step! 5. Think about the word "intention" and what that means. Have you noticed that when you intend on something, this "thing" comes to you? So, the next time a great opportunity arises and you fear it, remember your heart intended it and now it's here for you. You are ready for the very thing you wanted. If you think about it in this way your mind will release all the "old ways" of behaving once you program the fact that you are ready and now "that thing" is here. The small ones are called protozoa. These parasites eat and excrete wastes every day. They not only eat our food, but many of them eat human tissue. They also can eat the protein coating on our nerves. Endolimax nana is a parasite that has been known to eat the calcium off our bones, causing forms of arthritis. Entamoeba bistolytica can get into the liver, the lungs and the brain. Immature forms of a worm called round worm, also known as ascaris, can get into our lungs and cause asthma. And more examples Many cases of chronic anemia can be from a parasite called hookworm, also known as necator americanus, meaning "American murderer". This parasite attaches itself to the lining of our intestines and bites into our blood vessels. It is capable of drinking an enormous amount of blood every day. Hemoglobin levels as low as 15% below normal have been found in people with chronic hookworm disease. Experts now feel that even seizures may be caused by parasites, and that worms can even get into our brains! Another type of roundworm, whipworm, injects a digestive fluid into our colon, turning our colon tissue into a liquid which the worm then sucks up. Pinworms have recently been found in the uterus, vulva and the fallopian tubes of some female patients. This is because when the worm travels to the anus to lay its eggs, it can get lost in the vagina. In other words, it travels through the colon, out of the anus, into the vaginal area and gets lost on its way back. It's no wonder women can't get rid of their vaginal infections. Today, American farmers depend on Central American countries to provide the fruits and vegetables consumers want year round. These countries are allowed to grow and export crops that have been subjected to parasitic and toxic contaminants. In addition, raw and undercooked foods are becoming more popular. Moreover, more people are susceptible due to compromised immune systems caused by pervasive antibiotic usage, autoimmune disorders, pet ownership and most of all, food resources. Let's examine why this is fast becoming the prevailing view. Red Yeast Rice: What Is It? Red Yeast Rice is a fermented by-product of red yeast (Monascus purpureus) grown on white rice. The resulting unique compound is then powdered and used in food and medicinal preparations. In the Asian culture, Red Yeast Rice is commonly used in cooking applications to enhance the color and flavor of foods. Red Yeast Rice: The Cholesterol Low Down Red Yeast Rice extract contains protein, fiber, phytosterols, fatty acids, and active compounds known as statins. As you may have heard, statins have recently been receiving a lot of attention for their cholesterol-lowering abilities. Red Yeast Rice Extract contains naturally-occurring forms of statins, which work synergistically. Research has indicated that these natural compounds effectively: Inhibits the enzyme responsible for making cholesterol in the body. Helps the body produce less LDL (bad) cholesterol Promotes HDL (good) cholesterol. Reduces triglyceride levels (Triglycerides are fatty compounds in the blood stream. Elevated levels have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease). Red Yeast Rice: The Studies Robert Rister, herbalist, author and one of the editors of The Complete German Commission E Monographs, writes: "The first clinical study of Red Yeast was conducted in China. Physicians gave 324 people with high cholesterol (average total cholesterol, 30mg/dl, average LDL, 130mg/dl, average HDL, under 40mg/dl) either Red Yeast or a placebo for 8 weeks. Total cholesterol dropped by 23%, LDL by 31 percent, and triglycerides by 34 percent. Serum HDL cholesterol levels increased by 20 percent." The PDR For Nutritional Supplements cites this research: In a randomized study involving 502 patients with high blood fat content, there was a 17% reduction of total cholesterol in the treated group. LDL cholesterol was reduced an average of 24 percent, triglycerides fell an average of 19%. HDL cholesterol rose by 12.8 percent. These results were further measured after 4 weeks. Dosage was 600mg of Red Yeast Rice twice daily. At the end of 8 weeks, still better results were reported: total cholesterol reduced by 22%, LDL-cholesterol reduced by 30 percent, triglycerides reduced by 34 percent, HDL-cholesterol increased by 19%. Other studies combining Red Yeast Rice supplementation with a low-fat diet yielded even more significant results. Due to these and other promising outcomes, more research is underway. Red Yeast Rice: How Safe? The first Red Yeast Rice supplement offered in the United States was challenged by the FDA because its main statin, lovastatin, was said to be too similar to the prescribed cholesterol-lowering drug, Mevacor. The PDR For Nutritional Supplements and other research reference guides concluded however, that (1) the amount of natural lovastatin delivered by Red Yeast Rice is significantly lower than the isolated pharmaceutical form. In addition, Dr. Andrew Weil, internationally recognized expert on medicinal herbs, noted that (2) Red Yeast Rice contains other statins plus a natural mixture of compounds, making it considerably less toxic than isolated lovastatin.
