| Breathitt Co. ATC FBLA Attends State Leadership Conference 4-26-04 On April 13-15 the Breathitt County ATC FBLA Chapter attended the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference at the Executive West Hotel in Louisville, KY. Ashley Gross, Brittany Combs, and Jarad Fugate competed in Website Development. They placed 2nd in the 6th region and received an invitation to compete at the state level. | Breathitt County Football Team On Friday August 11th, 2006 the Breathitt County Football Team held a Grid-O-Rama at the Mike Holcomb Athletic Field. The first game pitted Somerset against Boyd County. This game had the hype of a big game. The Deaton kid is one of the top Quarterback’s in the state. His father is a Quarterback from way back and he has what it takes to be a good one like his father. This was a really good game as the two teams played hard and seemed to play both ends of the game well. Boyd County scored two touchdowns and then the kids from Somerset scored two also. The game ended in a tie at 14 each. The second game showed Breathitt and Letcher. Letcher received the ball first and seemed to just roll with it. Breathitt could not stop them as they scored a touchdown, but missed the extra point. When Breathitt started their offense, Colby Fugate hit Rusty Herald for a 60 yard pass. Fugate fumbled on the next play, which was a handoff, and turned it over to Letcher once again. Breathitt forced a turnover and scored when Beckham Herald scampered 30 yards for a touchdown. Breathitt also missed their extra point. From there Breathitt got extra gas in their tank and the defense led by Hunter Morgan and Beckham Herald held solid. Herald scored two more times with Colby Fugate running in for a two point conversion. The final score was Breathitt 20 and Letcher 6. What I seen was a young Breathitt squad play hard for the first few plays and kind of let up. They then caught their breath and came on strong against a very good Letcher Breathitt Co. Schools adding 2 new gym floors this summer, and lots More….. Super Mr. Arch Turner and Asst. Super David Napier invited myself to go see the New Happenings around the School system, and they were so proud of the New Gym floor that’s been installed at SMS, he said that it a good start for the summer and the kids will really enjoy it. Lots of things have happen at Breathitt Co. Schools this summer as the Breathitt Co. Board just as of June 27th board meeting approved the adding and accepting the bid for the PE Gym at Breathitt High school, it will really be a plus for practicing and they both will be set up for volley ball also, so they will be multi-purpose and that’s great. The new maple floor is a long awaited happening for the kids at SMS, and a new practice facility for the Girls and Boys teams at Breathitt High School and I for one didn’t ever think it would happen, and I did tell Mr. Arch Turner that but he was quick to say it is “here now” you can see it don’t you, and they are lots more that’s happening too, while we were there we looked at the New tile floor that’s been installed in the SMS lunch room and the covering of the stage steps also, and I might say it looked great, and all the employees were proud of the floor and stage as they did them themselves, and also seen the New lockers that was installed before school had dismissed and as we were getting ready to leave I happen to notice that you can see just how beautiful the campus of The SMS School looked(New Baseball and Softball Fields just not any fields better, and I reckon they will be adding drainage to the baseball fields in July and hopefully out field warning Track) and seen the New building that houses The Breathitt County Early Childhood Center beside the Hospital, next to the nursing home. So we went and checked it out also, and I must say the Super Arch Turner and Asst. Super David Napier was really proud of this, and said that they had 44 kids signed up already and seemed as the kids was really enjoying themselves, I took a few pictures to just let everyone see just how they were doing and all was happy to get their pictures taken, it really made you feel good to talk to the kids and watch the them swing and see the nice clean building that they have for the kids to start early learning in, as we got there it was snack time and I was really excited to see just how young of kids that they excepted, and see the support staff taking such good care of the kids. Of course I knew most of the support staff help at the Breathitt County Early Childhood Center, one in fact was Brenda Finley, she is just the best person and then there was Sharon Hollon, and lots more as I said they were very attentive of the kids and they really proud of the new facility, and the support that the Breathitt Board and Super had given them. I took the grand tour and it really was impressive, a nice kitchen and lots of classrooms were available, with lots of fun things to do. I told Mr. Arch Turner it was a big plus for the people of Breathitt Co., and he agreed quickly. I would like to thank Linda George and Lucy Turner for the invite, and hospitality and it left a great impression on me as a parent and a Breathitt Countian to know we have such a great Place for our Kids, Again “Thank You” To all that has made this possible, I know the kids parents do Thank You also. As we were leaving Mr. Turner was showing how the new approach that the county is going to put in there for The Nursing Home and Early Childhood center, and I do thank this will be a plus, as we were pulling out I can see just why it is needed, the blind spot is really bad and I do think its needed, and I just hope that The Medical Center will take a better look at the reasoning behind this and go a long with the need to re route the road to the Nursing Home and the Early Childhood Center, all in all we had a great day and seen a lot of Great Things happening at The Breathitt Co. School System.
