| LBJ Elementary Has “A Storybook Christmas” 12-18-07 The sounds of jingle bells are filling the air while visions of sugar-plums are dancing in the heads of local children. At LBJ Elementary School, however, there is something else that has been bringing in the Christmas season. The 5th grade students have been hard at work along with Mrs. Connie Watts, drama teacher, and Mrs. Robi Holfeltz, music teacher, in order to present a musical play called “A Storybook Christmas.” In this one-act musical play, Santa’s workshop is visited by your favorite storybook characters: the Wolf, the Three Little Pigs, and Little Red Riding Hood. But wait! Little Red Riding Hood now owns a health food restaurant, the Three Little Pigs are interior decorators and the Wolf is a gourmet chef! What’s next? This hilarious play explores just what can happen when you try to change the stories that all of us hold so dear. Mrs. Watts and Mrs. Holfeltz, along with the 5th grade teachers Mr. Doug Halsey, Mrs. Sundra Gilbert, and Mrs. Melissa Smith, worked with the students in order to prepare them for the play. Songs were rehearsed, lines were memorized, and the set was built to show a scene from Santa’s workshop. The students worked tirelessly in order to get everything perfect for the production. The student presented their play 3 times. On Thursday, December 13th, they presented their play to a group of proud parents. On Friday, December 14th, the play was shown for the 3-6 grade students and then again for the K-2nd grade students. All three presentations were a HIT! Everyone sat entranced as Santa’s toyshop came to life with characters right out of our imaginations. The play was FABULOUS! The cast included Andrew Rose as Santa, Sarah Bush as Mrs. Claus, Justin White as Felix, Courtney McKnight as Georgeanne, Adam Stacy as Wolfgang A. Wolf, Joey Griffith as Willie Weasel, Sarah Watts, Casey Young, and Stephanie Chapman as the Three Pigs, Shana Berry as Little Red Riding Hood, and Randall Robinson as Head Elf. The rest of the 5th grade class made up the other elves and the chorus. Brianna Haddix did a fantastic job as narrator for the play. Mr. Ron Combs, LBJ’s principal, was very proud of the students for all of their hard work. Mrs. Watts and Mrs. Holfeltz stated that they were also very proud of the students for working so hard and putting on a wonderful play for the school and community. If you didn’t get a chance to see the play, don’t worry. It was filmed by LBJ’s STLP students Zack Fugate and Dustin Allen. The entire production is available on DVD and is being sold at LBJ Elementary for $5.00 per copy. You will also be able to view it locally on Channel 9. This production is sure to bring each and everyone who views it a Merry Christmas! |
