Legends Skid Hits Seven 7-27-04
Lexington dropped a franchise high seventh game in row, losing to Kannapolis by the score of 3-2 Monday night. The Legends are 0-5 in the homestand and they’ve been swept twice with Lake County coming to town for a two game series beginning Tuesday night.
Derick Grigsby pitched a solid game with five innings, allowing just a run on three hits. Joey Deleon (4-5) suffered the loss after giving up two runs in the sixth in relief of Grigsby. Aaron Williams worked 1.1 scoreless innings to run his streak to 12.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
Kannapolis scored the games first run without a hit. Derick Grigsby loaded the bases with a walk and two hit batters. Charlie Lisk scored a double play ground ball to make it 1-0.
The Legends grabbed their first lead with two runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Kevin Davidson singled and two outs later scored on Edwin Maysonet’s triple to right-centerfield. Maysonet scored a wild pitch by Wes Whisler (3-0).
Leo Daigle tied the game with a solo shot off of Joey DeLeon in the sixth inning. Kannapolis took the lead three batters later when Chris Young’s infield single score Brandon Bounds to make it 3-2 Intimidators.
Josh Muecke will try to snap the skid Tuesday night. Muecke will make his 3rd start of the year. Lake county will counter with right-hander, Chris Niesel at 7:05. The Summit Mortgage Pre-game Show will kickoff the broadcast beginning at 6:50 on the Legends Radio Network.


Legends Drop 6th Straight

The losing streak continues for the Lexington Legends after Sunday‘s 4-2 loss to Kannapolis. Chris Young continues to terrorize the Legends. Young was 3 for 4 performance, including his 6th home run of the year against Lexington.
Daniel Haigwood handcuffed the Legends for six innings in route to his 10th win of the year, the most in the SAL. Ehren Wasserman earned his league best 24th save with a perfect ninth inning. Chance Douglass (7-7) showed improvement for Lexington. Douglass was saddled with his 7th loss of the year after working six innings allowing four runs on six hits.
The Legends received valuable production from Scott Robinson, who had three hits, including two doubles a run scored. Ervin Alcantara homered in the third inning. The solo shot was the 14th of the year for Alcantara. Chad Prosser also added an RBI double in the 2nd inning.
Kannapolis with the win secured a winning season against the Legends raising their record to 9-7 with one game to play. The Legends slip to four games below .500 in the second half at 13-17. The Legends are hovering just over .500 on the year at 50-49.

Legends End Two Game Skid
7-12-04
Lexington snapped a two-game slide with a 9-4 win over Lakewood Sunday night. Saul Torres drove in three on three hits. Edwin Maysonet scored three runs in the Legends win. Derick Grigsby earned his 5th win of the year with 5.1 innings of work. Aaron Wilson suffered the loss falling to 0-1.
Lakewood broke from the gate quickly Sunday night plating four runs in the first off of Grigsby. Sacrifice fly’s by Jake Blalock and Bryan Hansen built a two run lead for the BlueClaws. Josh Mader doubled the lead to 4-0 with a two run single.
The Legends picked up their first run in the 2nd inning. German Melendez’ sacrifice fly scored Saul Torres, who singled leading off. Lexington trimmed the BlueClaws advantage to 4-2 in the third inning. Edwin Maysonet tripled to centerfield and scored on Ervin Alcantara’s sacrifice fly.
The Legends grabbed their first lead thanks to a 3-run double by Saul Torres in the fifth inning to make it 5-4. The Legends added another run in the sixth inning when Freddy Acevedo scored on Maysonet’s sacrifice fly. Freddy Acevedo added two more runs on a 2-run homer in the seventh. Edwin Mayonset finished the scoring, scampering home from second on Josh Mader’s 2nd error of the game.
Monday will wrap up the home stand. Lexington’s Mitch Talbot will face Erick Arteaga in the 7:05 first pitch. The Summit Mortgage Pre-game show will kick off the broadcast at 6:50 on the Lexington Legends Radio Network.


Blue Claws Pile On Legends
7-11-04
Lakewood humbled Lexington 15-6 before a sellout crowd 7,439 at Applebee’s Park. The BlueClaws pounced on the Legends, scoring three or more runs in four separate innings. Chance Douglass picked up his 5th straight loss, working just four innings allowing three runs on three hits. Nate Cabrera evened his record at 3-3 with five innings of five hit, one run baseball.
Lakewood’s Jake Blalock and Lexington’s Beau Hearod continue to pile up big numbers in the head-to-head series. Blalock homered and drove in five to give him six home runs and 18 RBI against the Legends this season. Hearod is nearly as impressive. The Legend also homered and collected two RBI, giving him six homers and 12 RBI against the BlueClaws.
Walks continue to be a problem for Lexington. The pitching staff walked nine batters, six of which scored. Mike Collar relieved Douglass but offered little relief for the Legends. Collar was roughed up for five runs in 1.1 innings.
The usually reliable, Jonathan Beltre also found it tough on the mound. The All Star reliever gave up three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings. Justin Humphries surrendered four runs on two home runs in mop up duty.
Home field has provided little advantage in the series. Lakewood is 4-1 in Lexington while the Legends are 4-2 in Lakewood.

Legends Give Claws 6-4 Win 7-11-04
Lakewood scored two runs in the top of the ninth on just one hit to knock off the Lexington Legends 6-4 Friday night. Joey DeLeon delivered a bases loaded walk and hit a batter to force in two runs busting up a 4-4 tie. The loss to the Blue Claws snaps the Legends four game win streak over Lakewood. Lexington stays within 2-games of first place Charleston, thanks to the Alley Cats 12-4 loss to Delmarva.
Lakewood established a 4-0 lead early. The Claws took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Bryan Hansen doubled, advanced to third on a pass ball and scored on a ground out to shortstop by Randy Ruiz. The BlueClaws ballooned their lead to 4-0, thanks to three Lexington errors in the top of fifth inning.
The Legends would begin their rally in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a Freddy Acevedo’s solo home run to make 4-1. Edwin Maysonet tripled and scored on Ervin Alcantara’s sacrifice fly in the 6th. Beau Hearod followed with a solo home run to draw Lexington to within a run at 4-3. The Legends tied the game in the 8th when Ozzie Fernando singled, stole second base and scored on Alcantara’s double to right field.
Lakewood bounced back to load the bases in the top of the ninth inning on two walks and a bloop single. Joey Deleon then walked Javon Moran to score Nick Italiano. Omar Bramasco scored when DeLeon hit Jake Blalock with a fast ball.
DeLeon took the loss falling to 4-4. Maximo Reyes got a team high 6th win with two innings for Lakewood, allowing a run on three hits.

Kannapolis Slips Past Legends
6-24-04
For the 2nd straight night, Kannapolis slipped past the Lexington Legends by a run. The Intimidators scored two runs in the top of the 8th to defeat the Legends 3-2. Lexington had their chances but couldn‘t cash in. The Legends stranded 11 runners on base during the game.
Fernando Hernandez (1-0) got the win for Kannapolis with one inning of work. Jonathan Beltre (3-2) suffered his 2nd loss coughing up the go ahead run in the 8th inning.
Lexington took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ervin Alcantara doubled in Josh Anderson. The Legends lead was short. Ricardo Nanita singled in Antoin Gray in top of the sixth inning to tie the game at one.
The Legends regained the lead in the top of 7th with a run. Anderson singled and went to the second on the throwing error by pitcher Fernando Hernandez and scored on a single by Alcantara. Kannapolis scored two runs in the top of the 8th to take a 3-2 lead. Chris Young’s sacrifice fly scored Cory Haggerty. Ricardo Nanita singled and scored on Micah Schnurstein’s single to right field.
Ervin Alcantara had three hits and two RBI for the Legends. Josh Anderson also had three hits and scored two runs in the game. Anderson also had a stolen base but was caught trying to steal third base in the ninth inning.
Congratulations to Jonathan Beltre and Ryan France. They were named Wednesday as replacements for the SAL All-Star Game.

Young’s Homer Stings Legends

For the first time this season, Lexington lost a game when leading after eight innings. Chris Young smashed a two out, home run in the ninth to tie it at eight apiece. Kannapolis scored a run in the tenth to knock off the Legends 9-8. Lexington was 33-0 when leading after 8 innings until Tuesday night. Kannapolis improved to 2-28 when trailing after eight innings.
Lexington had a 8-7 lead heading into the ninth inning. With two outs, Chris Young smacked a game tying home run to left field. Young appears to have the Legends number. The Kannapolis Centerfielder is hitting .500 with four home runs and eight RBI in seven games.
The loss wasted quality nights by several Legends. Offensively, the Legends were led by Saul Torres, who had three hits including a solo home run. Ervin Alcantara and Ozzie Fernando with two hits each. Ryan France continues to excel out of the bull pen. The righthander tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. France has now allowed just 1 run since April 17th.
Aaron Williams (0-4) suffered his fourth loss of the year with two innings of work. Adam Larson (2-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning

Legends Race Past Cats, 14-1

The Lexington Legends sent first place Charleston packing with a 14-1 shellacking at Applebee’s Park on Monday afternoon. Josh Anderson and Ervin Alcantara each smacked home runs in the Legends win. Mitch Talbot was masterful in getting his 4th win of the year. The right-hander authored 7 innings allowing just a run on 2 hits. Talbot retired his last 13 batters.
The Alley Cats fired the first shot in the first inning on a Ryan Roberts Solo home run. The Legends came back with two in the bottom half. Edwin Maysonet doubled in Anderson and scored himself on a wild pitch. Lexington added three more in the 2nd inning. Ervin Alcantara’s two run blast was the big shot.
Anderson’s 2-run dinger in the fourth bumped the Legends lead to 7-1. The Bombers put the game out of reach with a 7-run, fifth inning. Maysonet capped the avalanche of runs with a two-run double.
Anderson had four hits and a current streak of seven consecutive hits dating back to Sunday evening. The former EKU star also four runs scored running his league leading total to 61. Maysonet had four RBI on the day lifting his total to a team hi 42. Saul Torres’ 9-game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-3 performance
The Legends are back on the road Tuesday night. Lexington will tangle with the Hickory Crawdads. Raymar Diaz will make a spot start, opposing Hickory’s Tom Gorzelanny. First pitch is set for 7:00. The Summit Mortgage Pre-game Show will begin at 6:45 on the Lexington Legends Radio Network.


Alley Cats Walk Off With 6-4 Win
6-13-04
Lexington pitchers walked 17 Charleston batters but it was a home run that was the Legends undoing. Christian Snavely smacked a two run shot in the top of the ninth inning to give the Alley Cats a 6-4 win. The 17 walks are a club record and two shy of the SAL record.
The Legends flirted with danger all night long. The Alley Cats left the bases loaded twice in the game and two on base in two additional innings. Eight of the nine batters reached base by a walk and six of the batters walked at least twice in the game.
The first free pass came back to haunt Legends starter, Derick Grigsby, in the first inning. Juan Peralta scored on a sacrifice fly. The Legends tied it in the bottom half. Josh Anderson walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Edwin Maysonet.
Lexington took their first lead in the second when Scott Robinson raced home on a ground out by Freddy Acevedo. The Alley Cats would draw even in the top of the fourth. Brian Patrick’s sacrifice fly scored David Smith, who led off with a single.
The Legends regained the lead with a two spot in the bottom of the fourth. Maysonet forced in German Melendez with a ground out. Josh Anderson scored on Ervin Alcantara‘s double. Charleston scored single runs in the 5th and seventh to draw even, setting up Snavely’s game winner.
Saul Torres had three singles to extend his hit streak to eight straight games. Alcantara had two hits, including a double, to bump his average to .281.

Legends Hand Alley Cats An 8-2 Loss

Lexington capped off a beautiful day Applebee’s Park with an 8-2 win over Charleston, Sunday evening. The Legends scored in their first and last at bats to even the series at 1-1. The victory got the Legends to within 5.5 games of Charleston with eight games to play in the first half.
The Legends jumped all over Ramon Mora in the first, plating two runs. Beau Hearod doubled in Edwin Maysonet and Ervin Alcantara raced home on the sacrifice fly by Saul Torres. The Alley Cats drew even in the top of the fourth. Brian Patrick’s double scored Ryan Roberts from first base. Patrick scored on a double play ground ball by Robinzon Diaz.
The tie game was brief. The Bombers scored a deuce in the bottom half of the fourth. Maysonet’s sacrifice fly scored Brock Koman, who reached on an error by shortstop, Juan Peralta. Chad Prosser also reached on an error by Peralta and scored on the single by Alcantara.
Lexington put the game away in the bottom of the eighth inning. Edwin Maysonet smacked a three-run home run, his 8th of the year. Saul Torres doubled and scored on Scott Robinson’s single to right field.
Torres had two hits to push his hit streak to nine straight games. Matt Albers earned his 4th win of the year with six quality innings. Albers limited the Alley Cats to two runs on three hits. Ramon Mora suffered his third, loss coughing up four runs in five innings.

Legends fall in 10 innings
6-7-04
Kannapolis broke free for three runs in the top of the 10th to win 5-2 Friday night. The win helped the Intimidators avoid being swept by the Legends. Lexington remain 3.5 games back of Charleston in the Northern Division.
Jonathan Beltre dropped his first game of the year. The lefty gave up all three runs in the tenth inning falling to 3-1. Todd Deininger earned his first win of the year for Kannapolis after pitching Intimidators out a ninth inning jam. Ehren Wasserman picked up his 10th save with a scoreless tenth inning.
The Intimidators effort had some local flavor. Former UK star, Seth Morris doubled in the third and scored the games first run on Brandon Bounds double to right field. The Legends pulled even in the bottom half of the third inning. Freddy Acevedo singled and scored on the single by Josh Anderson., who was thrown out at second by Morris while trying to stretch the single to a double.
Chris Young’s ninth home run of the year, gave the Intimidators a 2-1 lead in the top of fourth. Ozzie Fernando manufactured a run in the fifth for the Legends. The Shortstop walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a pass ball and scored on the error by Chris Young.
The game remained tied until the top of the 10th inning. Kannapolis’ Tom Brice singled in Antoin Gray. Young delivered a two out single plating Leo Deigle and Brice to finish the scoring at 5-2.
Lexington is on the road Saturday night for a two game series with Hickory. Robert Stiehl will seek his 2nd win of the year. The Crawdads will turn to lefty Josh Shortslef. First pitch is set for 7:00, airtime 6:45 with the Summit Mortgage Pre-game Show.


Intimidators “E“, Leads To Legends W
6-4-03
A costly throwing error by Kannapolis second baseman, Antoin Gray opened the door for the Lexington Legends in the sixth inning on Thursday. The Legends stepped through and walked away with a 6-3 win. The routine grounder by German Melendez would have ended the inning but instead led to four unearned runs.
The win improved the Legends record to 29 and 22 and moved them back into second place, 3.5 games back of first place Charleston, West Virginia.
It was the Legends that were benevolent early. Lexington helped Kannapolis take a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Antoin Gray struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch by Matt Albers. Gray advanced to third on two ground outs and scored on the single to right field by Leo Daigle.
The Intimidators added a run in the fifth when Chris Young tripled and scored on the single by Gray. The Legends broke through in the bottom half of the fifth on Ozzie Fernando’s third home run of the year making it 2-1 Kannapolis.
Lexington claimed the lead for good in the fateful sixth. Gray’s throwing error allowed Scott Robinson and Ervin Alcantara to score. Josh Anderson delivered a dagger with a double to center, scoring two more to make it 5-2.
The I’s plated a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Daigle. Lexington added the icing to the cake with Fernando scoring from third on a wild pitch by Ehren Wasserman in the 8th inning.
Matt Albers (3-1) picked up his third win of the year. The Sugar Land, Texas native worked a season high seven innings allowing two runs on four hits. Albers struck out seven batters. Alcantara and Fernando each had two hit night’s. Josh Anderon had two RBI.
The Legends wrap up the three game set Friday night with a 7:05 first pitch. Mitch Talbot will seek his 4th win of the year while Kannapolis will send right-hander, Rafael Flores to the hill. The Summit Mortgage Pre-game Show begins at 6:50 on Sports Radio 1300, WLXG.


Grigsby Shines In Legends Win
6-2-04
Derick Grigsby snapped a four game losing with six strong innings, leading the Lexington Legends to a 7-2 win. The victory was Grigsby’s first since April 15th. The Marshall, Texas native allowed just two runs on three hits and struck out a career high nine batters. The Legends offense also returned. Lexington pounded out 10, including three by Edwin Maysonet. Ervin Alcantara counted a 431 foot home run to centerfield among his two hits. Brock Koman doubled and drove in two runs. Josh Anderson got the Legends started in the bottom half of the first with an infield single and a stolen base. Maysonet singled in Anderson to give the Legends a 1-0 lead. The Bombers added two runs in the second inning. The first came on Alcantara’s blast. Koman doubled and scored on Kevin Davidson’s single to right. Kannapolis sliced the Legends lead to one in the top of the fourth inning. Micah Shnurstein led off with a solo home run to left field. Former University of Kentucky star, Seth Morris’ ground out scored David Cook, who walked.  The Legends put the game away with a 3-run, fifth inning. Maysonet singled in Ozzie Fernando. Josh Anderson reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Scott Robinson’s sacrifice fly. A walk issued to Brock Koman forced in Maysonet. Lexington added an unearned run in the seventh. Beau Hearod reached on a two base error by Seth Morris. Hearod advanced to third on a ground out and scored on Koman’s Sacrifice fly. Lexington will seek their second straight win Thursday night. Crawdads Add To Legends Woes

Hickory wrapped up a series win over Lexington with a 2-1 victory against the Legends Wednesday night. The Crawdads starter, Brian Holliday silenced Lexington on two hits in 6 innings of work. Holliday improved to 2-4 with the win, while Derick Grigsby lost his fourth straight. Grigsby (2-4) worked five innings allowing just one earned run on four hits. Hickory took advantage of a couple of Lexington mistakes in the first inning. Javier Guzman singled, stole second, went to third on a pass ball and scored on a throwing error by Kevin Davidson. The second run came in the fourth on an RBI double by Sean Smith. The Legends scored their run when Ervin Alcantara doubled in Scott Robinson in the ninth inning Jonathan Beltre worked 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in relief of Grigsby. Aaron Williams tossed the final 1.2 innings, striking out two. Josh Anderson had a single and his league leading 37th stolen base. Freddy Acevedo and Ozzie Fernando each had singles.
Lexington takes to the road for a five game road trip, starting in Charleston Thursday night. The Alley Cats will host the Legends for two games. Matt Albers will face Ramon Mora for the 6:05 first pitch. The Summit Mortgage Pre-game show begins at 5:50 on Sports Radio 1300, WLXG.


Douglass Gave Legends A Chance In 8-3 Win

Lexington returned to form Tuesday afternoon with a workman like 8-3 win over Hickory. A five run, third inning helped the Legends earn a doubleheader split with the Crawdads. Beau Hearod and Ervin Alcantara connected on home runs in the decisive third.
Chance Douglass’ (5-0) performance was noteworthy. The Legends staff had given up 69 runs in the previous six games, but the right-hander tossed five shutout innings before giving up a three run homer in the sixth inning. Douglass’ five wins are second best in the SAL.
Hearod drove in 4 runs in the game with a single and the homer. His home run was his 10th of the season, just two off the league lead. Saul Torres also had two hits and an RBI. Josh Anderson had two hits and two runs scored. Ervin Alcantara also had two hits including the home run
Mike Cockrell had day he’ll never forget. The third baseman had 2 home runs and 11 RBI in the doubleheader. Eight of the RBI came in Hickory’s 16-5 win over the Legends in the opening game of the day.
The win evened the series at a game apiece. Lexington is also back in 2nd place with Hickory with both teams chasing the Charleston Alley Cats.

Charleston Sweeps Legends
5-24-04
It was Deja’ vu for Lexington Sunday afternoon. The Charleston Alley Cats used Saturday’s game plan, to rough up the Legends starter, and it worked. The Alley Cats scored six runs on Mitch Talbot thanks to seven hits in route to the 10-3 over the Legends.
Like Saturday night, the Alley Cats started things in the second inning. Clint Johnston hit a solo home run leading off. David Smith later scored on an error by Ozzie Fernando to make it 2-0. A solo homer by Ryan Roberts built the lead to 3-0 in the third inning. Charleston made it 6-0 with a three run, fifth inning. A two-run double by David Smith capped the inning. Ryan Roberts connected on his 2nd home run of the day, a two-run shot, in the sixth inning.
The Legends got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Kevin Davidson scored on Beau Hearod’s sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 8-1. Josh Anderson hit an opposite field home run to left field in the 8th inning. David Smith bumped the Charleston advantage to 10-2 with a two run homer to left field in the 9th . Ervin Alcantara ended the scoring with a 431 foot solo shot in the ninth inning, his sixth of the year.
Mitch Talbot suffered his third loss of the year. Justin James, who limited Lexington to just a run on three hits, improved to 4-2. Kevin Davidson extended his hit streak to seven games with a ninth inning single. Davidson also extended his on base streak to 21 straight games.
The Alley Cats swept the Legends in the two game series and they pulled to three games in front of the Legends in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League. The loss was Lexington’s third straight and their fourth in five games.

Charleston Deals Legends 7-3 Loss

Charleston turned a highly anticipated match up with Lexington into text book 7-3 win. The Alley Cats scored early and often, chasing Matt Albers after just five innings. The Lexington right-hander suffered his first loss of the year after giving up five runs on five hits.
Jonathan Beltre worked three innings giving up 2 runs on a hit including Juan Peralta’s first home run of the year. Joey DeLeon worked a scoreless ninth inning.
Danny Core kept Legends batters off balance all night long. Mixing in breaking ball for strikes, the Floridian limited Lexington to four hits. The Legends touched up Barbourville native, Joaquin Canizal for three runs in the 8th inning. Beau Hearod smacked his 9th home run of the year.
Scott Robinson was the brightest star offensively. Robinson collected three hits including a double.

Lakewood Takes The Fifth

The Lakewood BlueClaws exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning in route to a 10-5 win over Lexington, Wednesday night. Mike Collar (1-5) suffered through another tough outing allowing 8 runs in 1.2 innings in relief. The biggest dagger came from Marc Tugwell, who belted a three run home run in the decisive fifth.
The Legends remain in first place despite the loss. Charleston, WV lost 8-2 to the Lake County Captains in Charleston. Lexington and Charley West are both 24-15, two games in front of Hickory.
The BlueClaws took an early, 1-0, lead on a sacrifice fly by Chris Klemm. Ervin Alcantara erased the lead with a two run shot to right-center field. The blast traveled an estimated 421 feet. The Claws tied the game on a single by Klemm in the fourth, setting the stage for the Lakewood fifth inning.
Alcantara proved to be the bright spot for Lexington. Ervin had two RBI on a home run and a single. Ozzie Fernando also singled twice and collected his 19th RBI on the year.
Robert Stiehl started the game for Lexington. The right-hander worked three innings, allowing one run on four hits. Raymar Diaz pitched 1.1 innings giving up a run on three hits. Jonathon Beltre was very impressive in three scoreless innings.

Lakewood Claws Past Legends
5-21-04  The Lakewood BlueClaws used the long ball to beat Lexington Friday night. Five Lakewood players belted home runs off of Derick Grigsby in the BlueClaws 14-8 win. Four of the five shots were solo homers, including three in the first inning. The five homers by Lakewood are a franchise record.  The Legends also went deep twice. Beau Hearod hit his 8th of the year and Ozzie Fernando connected on his 2nd of the season. The three homeruns in the first staked Joe Wilson to a three run lead. Chris Klemm’s solo homer helped Lakewood tack on two more in the 2nd. The Legends cut into the Blueclaws lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Javon Moran connected on a 3-run, home run in the fourth to make it 8-2. The Claws added five in the 6th inning to balloon Lakewood’s lead to 13-2. Hearod and Fernando’s home runs sliced the deficit to single digits. A single run by Lakewood in the 8th inning restored the Claws lead to 10 runs at 14-4. The Legends rallied for four runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Fernando, Kevin Davidson, Josh Anderson and Saul Torres to finish the scoring. Grigsby (2-3) lost his third consecutive game lasting just 3.2 innings. Derick served up 8 runs on 8 hits. Raymar Diaz struggled as well, coughing up 5 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. Ryan France was the lone pitching bright spot with 2 scoreless frames. Mike Collar, in mop up duty, gave up a run on 2 hits in two innings. Lexington will open a much anticipated series with Charleston, WV Saturday night. Matt Albers will square off against Danny Core. Fernando Delivers Win With Walk Off Homer

Ozzie Fernando pick a great time for his first home run of the year. The Lexington shortstop belted a two run, walk off homer to lift Lexington to a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Lake County, Sunday afternoon. The homer came off of Lake County closer, Chip Southerland (1-2) who blew a save opportunity vs. the Legends for the second time in the home stand. The homer was the first of the year for Fernando and the first walk off home run for Lexington this season.
The Legends bullpen was outstanding all afternoon long. Ryan France and Josh Muecke (2-0) combined for 4 scoreless innings. Starter Derick Grigsby suffered through an erratic five innings allowing three first inning runs but settled in for three scoreless frames before coughing up a run in the fifth inning. The Lexington staff held the Captains to just four hits in the game.
Lake County did a credible job keeping the Lexington offense in check for much of the afternoon. Lexington did get a run off starter, Nick Pesco on an RBI single by Beau Hearod in the first inning. The Legends added an unearned run in the fifth inning when Josh Anderson scored from second base on an error by second baseman, Micah Schilling.
The Legends trailed 4 to 2 heading to the bottom of the ninth. Ervin Alcantara connected on a line drive home run with one out to get the Legends to within a run. Kevin Davidson earned a walk bringing Fernando to the plate, setting up the dramatic finish.
Lexington improves to 18 - 12 on the year with the win and stay four games back of Charleston in the Northern Division.

Lexington Hammers Lake County
5-9-04
Lexington pounced on Lake County in the first inning, scoring nine runs on 5 hits in route to a 17 -6 win Saturday night. The Legends sent 12 batters to the plate with Edwin Maysonet capping the seasons best inning with a grand slam to left field.
Beau Hearod had three hits and a solo home run that came in the seventh. Kevin Martin served up the blast to Hearod and threw behind the next hitter Scott Robinson. That set off a bench clearing brawl that led to the ejection of 6 players, three from each team. Lake County lost Martin along with Chris De La Cruz and Javi Herrera. Robinson was tossed along with Hearod and Justin Humphries. Freddy Acevedo left the game after being shaken up during the melee.
Before the ejection, Robinson was enjoying a terrific game. He was 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Humphries had 3 hits, 3 runs and 3 RBI. Acevedo was also 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and a run scored and Ozzie Fernando had three hits and 2 RBI.
Chance Douglass (3-0) earned the win with 6 innings of work. Raymar picked up his 2nd save of the year with 3 scoreless innings. Aaron Laffey suffered his third loss of the season.
The 17 hits represents a season high and the 17 runs were three shy of the season’s best total set two nights earlier when Lexington scored 20 against Delmarva. Saul Torres committed an error in the ninth inning. It was the Legends first error since May 1st.

Lexington’s Win Was A Blast! 5-7-04
It was a record setting night for the Lexington Legends on Thursday night. The Broadway Bombers tied a club record of 20 runs in their 20-4 win over Delmarva. The record was originally set by Lexington’s SAL Championship team on April 6th, 2001. The sixteen run margin also stands as the largest in franchise history.
Every Lexington batter scored at least once, with Josh Anderson scoring four times on four hits. Edwin Maysonet led the 16 hit attack with two home runs and 5 RBI. Ervin Alcantara also belted a 3-run homer and had four RBI on the night. Beau Hearod and Saul Torres had solo homers and Scott Robinson had two hits and three run scored.
Lexington starter Mike Collar came within an out of qualifying for the win. Collar pitched 4.2 innings allowing four runs on 3 hits. Raymar Diazx took over for 1.1 innings of work giving up 1 run on 1 hit. Ryan France (2-0) got the win in relief. France worked 1.1 scoreless innings. Aaron Williams finished the game with 1.2 perfect innings.
Lexington has won three straight, scoring 38 runs in the three wins. The Legends pull within four games of first place in the Northern Division with Charleston losing to Hagerstown 6-2.

Seven was a lucky number for Lexington Wednesday night. The Legends scored 7 runs in the seventh inning in route to a 9-5 win over Delmarva. The seven runs were produced by just two hits, one an infield single by Josh Anderson., the other a two run double by Scott Robinson. The rally bailed out Lexington starter, Mitch Talbot who pitched 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs on six hits. Jonathon Beltre became the Legends first three game winner with 1.1innings allowing two runs on Dustin Yount’s home run. Josh Muecke picked up his 3rd save of the year with two scoreless innings.  Scott Robinson was the offensive star with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Josh Anderson had a two hit night with a stolen base. Freddy Acevedo had an RBI and two run scored.  Lexington improves to 15 - 11 with the win. The Legends pull to within 5 games of first place thanks to a Charleston 8-6 loss to Hagerstown. Lexington also improves to 10- 5 at Applebee’s Park.  Game two of the three game set scheduled for 6:35 Thursday evening. Maysonet Delivers A Five Star Performance

The Lexington Legends captured a thrilling 9-8 win over Lake County Tuesday night. The Legends rallied for 2 runs in the bottom half of the tenth inning off of Lake County closer Chip Southerland. Edwin Maysonet smashed a two-out triple scoring Kevin Davidson and scored on Saul Torres’ single to left field for the win.
It was a roller coaster game for both teams. The game featured four lead changes with each team having the lead twice. The Captains scored first on a two out single by Javi Herrera in the first inning, scoring Brandon Pinckney. The Legends evened the game with a run in the second and took the lead on a two-run homer by Freddy Acevedo in the third inning.
Lake County tied the game with two runs in the fourth thanks to back-to-back triples by Ted Encarnacion and Chris De La Cruz. Justin Humphries smashed a two run homer in the fifth inning to help the Legends regain the lead. The Captains rallied for 4 runs in the seventh to take a 7-6 advantage. Lexington scored a tying run in the 8th on a single by Ozzie Fernando.
Micah Schilling gave the Captains life with a solo home run in the top of the 10th setting up the Legends dramatic come from behind win.
Maysonet had two hits extending his hit streak to 10 games. Ozzie Fernando had three hits and two stolen bases and Ervin Alcantara had three hits and three runs. Freddy Acevedo also had two hits and three rbi.
Raymar Diaz (1-2) picked up the win with one inning, allowing just a run on one hit. Legends starter, Matt Albers pitched 6 solid innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits. Josh Muecke was knocked around for 4 runs on three hits in a third of an inning. Aaron Williams tossed 2.2 scoreless innings.

Captains Take Legends By A Pirates Dozen, 13-0

The Lake County Captains combined timely hitting with a little wildness by Lexington staff to rout Lexington, 13-0. The Captains pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of nine walks by the Legends. Lake County has taken three of the first four games against the Legends this season. Lexington has managed only 3 runs on 16 hits in four games and have been outscored 28 to 3.
The Captains scored three runs in the third on a bases loaded walk by Grigsby and a two run single by Brandon Pinckney to establish a 3-0 lead. The Captains would add a run in the fourth on pass ball by German Melendez.
Lake County plated 3 in the in eighth inning and closed out the game with six runs in the ninth inning. Starter, Derick Grigsby (2-2) left after five innings after allowing 4 runs on five hits. Joey DeLeon pitched 2.2 innings giving up three runs on six hits and Robert Ramsey was roughed up for 6 runs on five hits in one inning of work. Designated hitter, Justin Humphries pitched to one batter getting a pop out to first baseman Scott Robinson.
Lexington offense was offensive. The Legends had only six hits in the game. Two each by Edwin Maysonet and Beau Hearod. Maysonet extended his hit streak to nine straight games.
