The Jackson Lightning surprised everyone by finishing 2nd place in the Morgan County AAU. The tournament included Besty Lane, Fleming County, Lost Creek, Richmond Red, Georgetown, Pikeville, Richmond Blue, Mt. Sterling, Prestonsburg, Morgan County, Lawrence County & Jackson Lightning. Jackson Started off their run by defeating Lawrence County 35 - 24. Game two was one of the best of the tournament as host Morgan defeated the Lightning 46 - 43. This led to tournament play, in which Jackson nearly ran the table. In round one, Jackson beat a good Prestonsburg team 33-29. In round two, Jackson advanced over Richmond Blue. In round three, Jackson was to play the winner of the Morgan, Montgomery game. Montgomery won easily 42 - 16. Knowing that Morgan had already defeated Jackson, and watching Montgomery, destroy Morgan, Jackson knew they had their hands full. In what was to be the game of the tournament, Jackson fell behind by one point with 13 seconds to go. Breanna Deaton drove to the basket and was fouled hard. With 5 seconds to go Breanna calmly sank both freethrows. Montgomery got off a last second shot but it fell short. Jackson won the game 33 - 32. In the championship game Besty Lane cruised for the title and placed the Jackson team in 2nd place. The Jackson team showed that it takes a team to play together and never give up, to win in clutch situations. GREAT JOB JACKSON LIGHTNING!!!!!
